Dentures

Losing teeth can be as traumatic as it is inconvenient, and for some, this is a reality that they live with every day. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way! At Gulf Dental we offer dentures as a restorative procedure and service for missing teeth. We use two types of denture restorative procedures: custom traditional dentures and custom implant supported dentures.

Traditional Dentures

Dentures are one of the most common procedures and solutions for missing teeth. If you need dentures, then you can rest assured that you will be in good hands at Gulf Dental.

Your denture procedure will begin with an initial examination and evaluation to determine the appropriate type of denture for you. Once that determination is made, measurements and a mold of your mouth will be taken for the fabrication of the dentures. When you have your dentures, you should remove them for cleaning and before you go to sleep.

Implant Supported Dentures

Unlike traditional dentures, implant supported dentures don’t rest directly on the gums, but they rest on implants. The implant is a steel or titanium post that is installed in the jaw prior to the placement of the denture. A custom-made acrylic base that looks like the gums rests on the dental implants. The last part of this type of denture is the porcelain cap or crown, which are placed on top of the acrylic base.

The implant supported denture will have a very realistic look and feel. Implant-supported dentures can be either permanent or removable. Removable implant-supported dentures snap in and out and, similar the traditional denture, they should be removed for cleaning before you go to bed at night. Permanent dentures can be cleaned like natural teeth.

Unlike traditional dentures, the implant-supported denture requires a sufficient amount of bone in the jaw in order to be placed. Talk with Dr. Mason to determine if implant-supported dentures are a good solution for you!

Benefits of Dentures

Replacing missing teeth, and restoring the smile is not the only benefit of dentures. There are many other rewarding and health-promoting benefits to having dentures versus having missing teeth:

  • The ability to chew and digest food is improved with dentures.
  • Bone loss in the jaw is slowed down when dentures restore the support that the jaw is missing.
  • Speech can be improved with there are teeth in the mouth again.
  • Facial muscles tend to sag when the teeth are missing, so having dentures corrects this condition.
  • Having teeth again will make you look younger and healthier!
